Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision has transformed Purvanchal—from a religious cluster into a rising industrial powerhouse

Purvanchal is emerging as a key contributor to Uttar Pradesh's vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy. Once known for mafia dominance and stagnation before 2017, the region has now been transformed into a model of development due to the Chief Minister's focused policies.

For decades, Purvanchal remained neglected in matters of development. After taking office in 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath created a comprehensive strategy to revive the region. According to the state government, 48 industrial projects worth ₹1,180.95 crore are currently underway in Varanasi, providing direct employment to 3,472 youth. Another 48 new projects with a proposed investment of ₹5,702.18 crore have been approved, expected to generate 12,110 additional jobs. Together, these initiatives are paving the way for more than 15,000 employment opportunities.

Industrial development in Varanasi and the wider Purvanchal region has accelerated significantly, opening new doors of employment. Under Chief Minister Yogi's leadership, Varanasi is emerging as a major industrial centre. Praising the government's efforts, R.K. Chaudhary, National Vice President of the Indian Industries Association, said that the Uttar Pradesh government has undertaken several initiatives to boost industrial growth. Investor-friendly policies and improved facilities are attracting investments to the region. The strengthening of road, rail, and air connectivity is directly supporting the rise of industries.

Industrial, logistics, and storage capacities have grown markedly in Varanasi and surrounding districts. Food processing, textiles, home products, and handicraft-based units have been promoted extensively. Simplified procedures for land allocation, electricity supply, transportation, and industrial clearances have encouraged investors to choose Purvanchal. With enhanced storage and transportation facilities, local products—including milk, vegetables, grains, and fruits—are now reaching both regional markets and major cities more efficiently. Since 2017, Varanasi alone has seen priority development with 79 projects worth ₹35,705.07 lakh (approximately .5 billion).

Agriculture-based industries have received special attention in Purvanchal. Facilities for collection, sorting, packaging, and storage of agricultural produce have expanded across Varanasi and adjoining districts. In Gorakhpur, the Dhuriyapar Industrial Township is being developed over 5,500 acres with robust rail and road connectivity. Spread across 17 villages, this township will greatly support transportation and the growth of agriculture-driven industries. Large local storage centres and supply chain units have enhanced the income security of farmers and small enterprises. Rural warehouses and cold storage facilities ensure the availability of raw materials to food processing units at reduced logistic costs, further strengthening the region's industrial ecosystem.
